Meaning in Life and Science Beliefs

This relatively new project examines the relationship between humans’ need to experience meaning in life and our understanding of materialist science, which seems to deny that meaning. This work is led by Jess, and is summarized here.  Also see our article in Current Directions in Psychological Science, describing our theory that Western materialism has eroded existential meaning. Jess’ forthcoming trade book, Why We Matter: The Science Behind What Gives Life Meaning, will also cover this topic in depth.

Jess is currently seeking new graduate students to work with her in this area, so please reach out if you are interested.
