Dr. Jess Tracy

Jess is a Professor of Psychology at the University of British Columbia and an award-winning expert in the science of emotions. The author of Pride: The Secret of Success, as well as articles in Scientific American, Aeon, and USA Today, Tracy’s scientific work has been published in over 120 scholarly journal articles and book chapters.

Jess grew up in Washington DC, and in 1996 she received her BA from Amherst College. After graduating she drove across the country to San Francisco, and in 2005 received her PhD in social-personality psychology from UC Davis. In 2006 Jess moved up north to Vancouver to begin her professorship at UBC.

Her research focuses on emotions (especially pride, shame, and guilt), the self, morality, and meaning. She has won major research and career awards from the International Society for Self and Identity and the Society for Experimental Social Psychology. Her work has been cited over 30,000 times.
