My research investigates how widespread changes in natural and social features of human environments alter the prevalence of beliefs and social attitudes.

In one stream of research, I use a multi-method approach to examine how historical and contemporary cultural trends have shaped how people evaluate and select leaders. In a second stream of research, I use a big data approach to describe and explain regional fluctuations in moral values and prejudices over time. In this work, I have primarily examined the effects of seasonal changes, political elections, and social movements.
